Chitty Chat

The European Figure Skating Championships opened on the same day that The-Boy-Who-Won was inaugurated. So, there was kind of a ho-hum on my side about his official entry into the seat of power. I like Obama but I really hope there is more to him than just good stage presence. I am not a super fan though I can say that so far I like the people he picked for his team. Maybe he read Jim Collins´ Good to Great because he does seem to want the best in his team.

Anyway, back to MY world, two days ago, I served tea to Brian Joubert and a lot of Europe´s top ice skaters. It is nice to see how normal they all seem to be, except of course, they were more fit. It seems that there were very few teen superstars in the ranks and more athletes in their 20s. I realized that back when I was 16, I found 22-year-old skaters a bit old. I mean, Tara Lipinski was 15 when she won gold, right? Now, I understand why European skaters seem to peak much later simply because they care for their well-being more. I mean, most teenagers are too immature to handle extreme fame and pressure. Plus, a lot of the European skaters keep their day jobs (usually as students) and they do not train 8 hours a day! Hehe.

These thoughts make me realize the little paradigm shifts I have made in my head. Surely, I have adapted the humor here as evidenced by me liking Burn After Reading a LOT. Plus, I also thought Twitter was a time-waster. Of course, I am still a Filipino through and through. I still like vinegar with my prawn crackers. :)

Ho-well. Another day in the life of the Finnlipino. :)
